It’s a common question, and the answer is that PNM uses several sources to create reliable, affordable and environmentally responsible electricity for our customers. Today, we rely on a smart, balanced fuel mix that includes solar, wind, geothermal, natural gas, nuclear and coal.
At PNM, we constantly analyze the options available to meet our customers’ rapidly evolving energy needs. That’s why we are investing heavily in renewable energy to steadily increase the percentage of power we generate from cleaner resources, while ensuring a reliable supply of electricity – even when the sun doesn’t shine or the wind blows.
To keep costs down for customers while creating a cleaner fuel mix, PNM has been working to significantly reduce emissions at our coal-fired San Juan Generating Station, which will allow us to continue to use this extremely reliable, cost-effective resource in an environmentally responsible way.
We also have a number of successful energy efficiency programs to help our customers reduce their electricity use. That’s good for them because it helps lower their bills, and good for everyone because it helps us delay or avoid the need to build more power generation facilities.
